An historic distillery situated on the edge of the Balmoral estate, producing whisky on a tiny scale despite being part of Diageo's large distillery portfolio. Much of its whisky is released as single malt, although it is also a key component of their high-end blended whiskies, such as Johnnie Walker Blue Label.

The distillery was awarded its Royal Warrant in 1848 when John Begg invited Prince Albert to visit the distillery from the nearby Balmoral Castle, the Queen's residence in the Highlands. The next day the distillery was visited by Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and their three eldest children. The distillery then became known as Royal Lochnagar.

From this single malt, single cask, cask strength, scotch whisky, expect:

This pale golden whisky has a fragrant nose of ginger, citrus and rhubarb. The palate is sweet with notes of pineapple in syrup, lemon marmalade and a delicate maltiness, all leading to a medium long finish with lingering sandalwood and spice.

Distilled in 2000 at Royal Lochnagar distillery, a Highlands distillery, one of few that has been granted the Royal Warrant. This is a 19 year old whisky that has matured in a refill hogshead barrel, bottled in 2019, at 55.5% abv.

Only 384 bottles produced from this cask.

Non-chill filtered, natural colour, bottled at cask strength, direct from barrel to bottle, no added water.

The First Editions is a cask strength series of (scotch) whiskies by the Independent bottler Hunter Laing.
