The First Editions - Macduff 21y, 1997, 54.4%, 288b
Distilled in 1997 - only 288 Bottles
Macduff is a HIghland distillery. Not too common in IB it does not bottle under its own name but goes under the name of Glen Deveron and is a modern distillery, 1962.
The stills have an unusual right angle kink at the lyne arm at the top of the still. The owners are Italian and that market tends to favour a lighter and fruitier style of single malt.
This bottling has fresh cut grass, citrus, honey and the lighter coloured dried fruits in the flavour profile.
Natural colour and at cask strength. As pure whisky as you can get, direct from barrel to bottle.
The First Editions was set up by Andrew Laing of Hunter Laing and focuses on mostly older ages of single cask bottlings of whisky that he chooses. Hunter Laing was created when Douglas Laing split down the middle in 2013 and the two brothers Fred and Stewart went their separate ways although both stayed in the world of whisky.
Hunter Laing also now has Ardnahoe distillery on Islay with one of the best views ... weather permitting... looking over at the isle of Jura.
