The First Editions - Auchroisk 21y, 1994, 57.6%, 277b
Distilled in 1994 - only 277 Bottles
Auchroisk distillery was set up to feed the blending industry in Scotland with single malt bottlings only available through Independent Bottlers.
The name is difficult to pronounce but becomes great fun when you've had a few drams... but lets not dwell on that and get back to this bottling.
Matured in a refill HHD (hogshead) for 21 years it has been finished in a wine cask to give it extra personality.
The nose has caramel and spices and the palate shows citrus fruits and vanilla. A bit of water does bring out floral nature more.
Natural colour and at cask strength. As pure whisky as you can get, direct from barrel to bottle.
The First Editions was set up by Andrew Laing of Hunter Laing and focuses on mostly older ages of single cask bottlings of whisky that he chooses. Hunter Laing was created when Douglas Laing split down the middle in 2013 and the two brothers Fred and Stewart went their separate ways although both in the world of whisky.
