🍷 Domaine Chantal Lescure Pommard 1er Cru "Les Bertins" 2022
Organic Burgundy with teeth.
"Organic, low-intervention 1er Cru Pommard from a respected grower. Deep cherry and dark berry fruit with fine tannins and a long, savoury finish. Powerful yet refined — classic Pommard structure without rustic edges. Great with roast meats and game, and has good ageing potential."
What it is
Pommard 1er Cru, Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France. 100% Pinot Noir from limestone soils and old vines. But this is not light, pretty, ethereal Burgundy. This is Pommard — the village known for producing the most structured, powerful Pinot Noir in the Côte de Beaune.
2022 vintage. Organic farming, low-intervention winemaking, long ageing. Domaine Chantal Lescure is a respected grower making wine the hard way: no shortcuts, no heavy manipulation, just terroir and time.
The place & producer
Pommard sits in the heart of the Côte de Beaune. Limestone soils, old vines, a reputation for seriousness. While neighbours like Volnay are known for perfume and elegance, Pommard is known for depth and grip. "Les Bertins" is a 1er Cru vineyard — top tier, not village level.
Chantal Lescure works organically and with minimal intervention. Long ageing in barrel. The result is classic Pommard structure, but handled with enough care that it stays smooth and lively rather than hard or rustic.
What it tastes like
In the glass: deep ruby with purple tints. Darker than many Côte de Beaune Pinots — you see the power before you taste it.
On the nose: ripe red and black fruits — cherry, blackberry, plum. Violet. A hint of incense and spice. With age this will shift into earthy, chocolate, leather territory. For now, it's fresh and intense.
On the palate: dry, fresh, intense. Present but fine tannins give grip without harshness. Good concentration. Flavours of cherry, red and black berries, subtle oak integration, a mineral and earthy undertone. Long, energetic, slightly savoury finish.
This is classic Pommard: power and depth, but refined. Not rustic, not soft. Burgundy with backbone.
When to open it
-
With roast duck, lamb, beef, pork, game birds, mushroom dishes, hard cheeses
-
For customers wanting a serious Burgundy to drink now or cellar a bit — it has the structure to last
-
For whisky drinkers who like structured, oak-influenced, complex malts (older Speyside, Highland, sherried styles) — this offers dry, savoury character and real grip, not soft, jammy fruit

Caring for your whiskies
Do not store whiskies long term horizontally as the high ABV alcohol will damage the corks overtime!
