A "copper dog" is the cylinder of copper that is used to dip into a cask from the bung hole and draw out a sample of whisky. This is an homage to that by Diageo. The whisky is a good example of a blend.
Copper is also hugely important in the making of whisky. The stills are made of copper and performs the function of taking away bad flavours... the more the copper contact the better, usually.
